York Holiday Reviews

York Minster

The city of York is easily one of the UK's most popular short break destinations. Thousands of visitors flock to see this picturesque city each year for its fascinating history, fabulous shopping and a whole wealth of great attractions too. Our superb range of York hotels offer an ideal retreat after a long day of shopping and sightseeing. The medieval city is compact and easy to explore, the gorgeous York Minster, Clifford's Tower, the famous cobbled street The Shambles and the Jorvik Viking Centre are all within easy walking distance of most central hotels in York.

  • York Minster sits at the very heart of York and dominates the city skyline. One of Britain's best medieval cathedrals, highlights of the Minster include the spectacular Heart of Yorkshire window, the Norman foundations in the crypt and the 275 step ascent to the top of the tower.
  • Lying just a short drive from the Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors, York provides the perfect base to explore stunning North Yorkshire scenery. Walk the North Sea coast from Filey to Scarborough or tackle Yorkshire's three peaks near Skipton.
  • York boasts a thriving food and drink culture which includes many fine restaurants, bars, pubs and cafes. Try Skosh's small plates or street food in the Shambles Market. A hotbed of the craft beer revolution, York has two breweries within the city walls in Brew York and York Brewery, a visit to their taprooms is not to be missed.
Our York hotels benefit from great transport links and the city is an excellent choice for a rail break. Ideally placed on the high speed East Coast Mainline, York is a mere two hours from London and only two and a half hours from Edinburgh. A city with a proud heritage, the terrific National Railway Museum is one of York's busiest attractions or, to add something extra to your stay, be sure to take a scary York Ghost Walk for a short break with a difference.

Always enjoy York

Stay Date: 18/04/15, a customer aged 45-64 from Bedford who stayed at 4* Novotel York Centre in York wrote this review.

The hotel is on the river and it's a pleasant walk to the town centre. A bonus is the hotel parking as parking in the centre of York can be expensive and is not easy. See More  Read more information   Collapse  Hide

Hotel good for disabled traveller

Stay Date: 17/04/15, a customer aged 25-44 who stayed at 5* The Principal York in York wrote this review.

Hotel is in a very convenient location right next to the railway station and not too far from the centre of things. It was especially good for those who have difficulty getting around. The staff See More  Read more information were very attentive and helpful with wheelchair assistance. We were upgraded without even asking to a wheelchair bedroom which was very nice although a little noisy on ground floor next to a busy roadwith people walking right past on the pavement all the time and not being able to open any windows was a little uncomfortable at times. Overall a very nice hotel - as others have said it needs updatingbut this is taking place now. Restaurant not too bad but found a better and more reasonable selection of food in the bar.   Collapse  Hide

Lovely hotel

Stay Date: 21/04/15, a customer aged 45-64 from Peterhead who stayed at 3* Best Western York Pavilion Hotel (Half Board Offer) in York wrote this review.

The hotel staff were so helpful and attentive. The food was delicious and the service, even when they were catering for a wedding, was 1st class. One of the waitresses wrote down directions for us See More  Read more information to walk into the town centre via the river - a lovely walk - and then we caught the bus back, they ran every ten minutes or so. The hotel was lovely; it was an old building that had been tastefullydecorated. Our room had a wooden beam over the ceiling, probably could be done with redecorating but still lovely. There were squirrels running about in one part of the beautiful garden and a duckin the courtyard. Very relaxing sitting outside in the sun. Would definitely recommend staying at this hotel.   Collapse  Hide

York Trip

Stay Date: 02/05/15, a customer aged 45-64 from United Kingdom who stayed at 3* Best Western Burn Hall Hotel (2 Night Offer & 1st Night dinner) in Easingwold (Nr York) wrote this review.

First stop was the National Railway Museum, which was very good - but the £9 parking fee (we were there 2 hours) was too steep - considering we had already made a £10 donation. The Burn Hall Hotel See More  Read more information was ok, the food was good and the staff were very friendly - but the bath was too small (which didn't matter in the end because the water flow could not be diverted from shower to bath) and theparking bays weren't marked so guests just parked how they wished causing a lot of wasted space. Aldwark Manor Golf Course was good, with some beautiful scenery along the River Ure, and the Manor Houseitself has some fascinating history of the WW2 Canadian Lancaster crews. The Designer Outlet was also good, but it cost me a small fortune! We had a meal of seafood linguine in the Cote Brasserie, inLow Petergate which was delicious. A nice short break :)   Collapse  Hide

Enjoyable long weekend in York

Stay Date: 02/05/15, a customer aged 25-44 from London who stayed at 3* The Queens Hotel in York wrote this review.

I stayed at the Queen's hotel; the location is superb, very central and facing the river. The hotel room was large and comfortable. Breakfast was very good with plenty of choice. The only See More  Read more information disappointment was when I ordered 'mushroom tagliatelle' for dinner which looked as if it came out of the microwave as the cheese sauce was boiling on the side when was served. Overall I will definitelyrecommend the hotel.   Collapse  Hide
