A break overlooking Windermere

Stay Date: 09/05/16, a customer aged 65+ who stayed at 4* Low Wood Bay in Windermere wrote this review.

This is a very nice hotel in a superb location. Few, if any places in the world can boast a more scenic outlook. The picture of the hotel which appears to show it at the top of a grass bank sweeping See More  Read more information down to the lake is however misleading as there is a narrow two track road with no speed limit between the hotel and the lake with a non-stop stream of traffic travelling at speed. It would be saferplaying Russian roulette than attempting to cross. We had a four night break but the room we were given was abysmal. A ground floor room as preferred but with a narrow window in one corner virtuallyobscured by a tangle work of metal which turned out to be the fire escape from rooms above. It was tight against the window and if you could see past it a side view of the lake which we had requested.A more dismal and depressing room we have never experienced. On voicing our dissatisfaction at check out we were told we could have had a different room. This being the case why did we not get abetter room in the first place. There was a token reduction in our food and bar bill but this did not make up for the disappointment and in addition it appears the hotel has a lift so it would not havemattered which floor we were on. Not the sort of treatment we have received at other SuperBreak destinations over the years.   Collapse  Hide

Hydro Bowness. Hmm

Stay Date: 23/04/16, a customer aged 25-44 from United Kingdom who stayed at 3* Windermere Hydro in Windermere wrote this review.

Booked the hotel after looking at the lovely room pictures online, gets to hotel, outside looks very tired. Definitely in need of some work, inside the hotel again is in need of some refurbishment, See More  Read more information some of the hallways smell very damp and mouldy, some of the safety glass in the internal doors is shattered and this it with the £140+ a night. Not a chance. The room was something out of the 70s andbore no resemblance to the lovely pics on the website. Would I stay there again? No way! Spend another £50-£60 and stay at the MacDonald hotel.   Collapse  Hide

Great day in Windermere

Stay Date: 04/04/16, a customer aged 45-64 from London who stayed at 3* Windermere Hydro in Windermere wrote this review.

Windermere Hydro Hotel, although a little ancient in décor, provides a warm and welcoming stay. Staff are polite and wanting to help. The hotel is up a hill, great to walk down but you need a See More  Read more information healthy pair of legs to climb back up, thankfully there is a bench for resting. Wall-to-Wall Sunshine in Windermere

Stay Date: 15/03/16, a customer aged 65+ from London who stayed at 4* Lindeth Howe in Windermere wrote this review.

The skies were endlessly blue and the sunshine gently warm for our Spring break to the Lakes. It was our fist visit and was thoroughly enjoyed. It was heartening to see how positive local people See More  Read more information were after the awful problems they have faced with the terrible winter weather. There are so many outdoor activities to enjoy - lake trips and minibus tours. Can highly recommend the Mountain Goat LakesTour. Our hotel the Lindeth Howe was attractive and comfortable and the staff were first class. However we would not recommend the hotel restaurant - fine dining is lovely but not when the portionsare so small as to be hard to see and extremely expensive. (Words of caution: Bowness has no chemist and no local museum.)   Collapse  Hide
