My children had booked a birthday treat for my Husband and I and had researched it thoroughly online. My husband had rung ahead to check on attire for the evening and had been told it must be formal evening wear, no jeans. He actually could've gone smart casual and been much more comfortable. Upon arrival for the dinner cruise, there was no welcome drink. We booked a window table and ended sitting practically on the dance floor. It took over half an hour before a waiter decided that we might want a drink. We had to ask for some bread. After waiting a further half an hour the bread, that definitely wasn't artisan, it arrived by the time we had started eating our main. My starter was incomplete, missing two of the items that were on my husbands plate. When notifying the waiter, she seemed irritated by my questioning. The food in general was very lack lustre, served Michelin style but I'm sure even Weather-spoons tastes better. The toilets are worse then on the underground. The only positive of the whole experience was the singer who was good, but the volume was so high you couldn't even speak. A unpleasant experience at best. Definitely do not recommend a Dinner Cruise, definitely not worth the extortionate price. If the experience and food is worthy, I am happy to pay whatever it costs. Collapse

As we had previously enjoyed (and I mean really enjoyed) an amazing night aboard Yachts of Paris a few years ago for dinner, we thought we would try for the same experience, but this time on the Thames with Bateaux London. If Yachts of Paris was a ten, Bateaux was a very disappointing five. The food was average at best, our waiter had no idea what was on our plate and if you want everything on the dinner menu (no choices), you have to pay extra (for the British Artisan Cheeses). In my opinion, that's just being cheap. Charge me more upfront, but please don't nickel and dime me. I could comment on everything we were served, but I'll stop after this - on their printed menu, they have Artisan Bread from Peyton and Byrne (like it's the first course or something). The bread was a roll and not really even that fresh. On a positive side, the band that played was good and fun and of course, we enjoyed going up and down the Thames. Collapse

Having read a couple of reviews before our trip yesterday (11.4.18), we were a little worried; however, this was completely unjustified and it is obvious that the poor reviews really were as a result of a supply issue on one day (we’ve all had a bad day and one bad day in ten years is pretty damn good!). We arrived for our cruise and were served by Christina, who was amazing - so polite and attentive. Our afternoon tea was delicious. We personally didn’t like all of the sandwiches but that was purely our taste and nothing wrong with the sandwiches at all. We were even offered more part way through dining so had opportunity to have more of the ones we liked. The scones were small but ample and absolutely delicious. The jam was equally amazing. There was a selection of cakes that were really, really nice. We were stuffed after eating it all! The cruise was amazing - so much to see. We stupidly didn’t realise that there is a deck at the back to enable you to see even more so, if you book your afternoon tea, don’t forget to get out of your comfy chair and have a potter to the back of the boat! This was an amazing experience, really special, and I would highly recommend it. Collapse
the worst afternoon tea I have ever had. Totally different to what was on the menu

Lets start with the positives - Good weather and the boat stayed afloat. Now the negatives. (photos attached) On the menu we were promised Sandwiches: Smoke Salmon and cream cheese, egg and cress, cucumber and mined yogurt, roast beef and rocket. What we got: Smoke Salmon flavor moose on a cracker, grated cheese sandwich finger, ham sandwich finger. a cherry tomato and slice of cucumber on a cracker! In total between 2 of us we had 4 sandwich fingers 2 x ham and 2 x grated cheese. Put them together you would have got one half of a sandwich. The scones where just bigger then a finger nail and the patisseries not much bigger. Photo proof attached . As there were not enough staff on the boat I continually had to get up and and go and get the coffee and team myself as the waiter was too busy. (not his fault) when I complained about having cheese instead of egg, ham instead of roast beef, no smoke salmon to be seen and the total lack of sandwiches all i got from the manager was the standard restaurant answer "our suppliers let us down, we are sorry". I asked if we could have a couple more sandwich fingers to which the answer was no as they dont have spare!! what a joke. I would suggest going somewhere else for afternoon tea, thousands of options in London and going for a standard trip down the Thames again there are lots of options, as this company are clearly struggling looking at recent comments. I wasn't the only one to raise concerns with the manager. Think twice before booking with Bateaux Cruises. Collapse

We booked lunch shortly after arriving in London and it was the perfect introduction to the city. We had a great experience on Bateaux in Paris and decided to try again. The food was was very good, and the tour was very interesting. The best part was actually the weather! It is easily accessible from the Tube. Collapse
