War Horse Theatre Show Information

A heart-warming play about a young boy and his horse - based on the novel by Michael Morpurgo.

About War Horse

War Horse returns to London this winter as part of its UK tour, taking to the Wembley Park Theatre stage from 18 October – 23 November 2019. Based on Michael Morpurgo’s book of the same name, the hit play uses realistic mechanical puppets to bring the show’s spectacular horses to life. Watch in awe as they breathe, gallop, and charge in this incredibly moving production.

The Story

Set during the First World War, War Horse tells the story of Joey – a family horse sold to the Cavalry and sent to France to fight. Left alone in no man’s land, Joey’s future is left hanging in the balance. With his owner Albert not yet old enough to enlist in the war, will he succeed in finding and bringing him home?

History of War Horse

War Horse premiered at London’s Royal National Theatre in 2007, before transferring to the West End in 2009. In addition to its 7-year run in the West End, the play ran on Broadway between 2011 and 2013. It also toured in the UK, USA, Australia, Netherlands, South Africa, and China. Over the years, the production has won 5 Tony Awards – including Best Play – and 2 Laurence Olivier Awards.
