About Les Miserables

Experience Cameron Mackintosh’s world-famous production ‘Les Miserables’ as it takes to The Lowry stage next spring. From 12 – 30 May 2020, the popular musical is back with a bang with brand new staging at this iconic Manchester venue. Including powerful songs like ‘I Dreamed a Dream’, ‘One Day More’ and ‘On My Own’, the emotional show is a rollercoaster ride you won’t want to miss.

The Story

Set during the French Revolution of the early 19th century, Les Miserables tells the story of Jean Valjean – an ex-convict who turns his life around after breaking parole. Now mayor of the town, Valjean adopts a young Cosette after her mother’s death, but the pair must go into hiding when Valjean’s dark past comes back to haunt him. Years later, revolution and rebellion hit Paris – but where does that leave Cosette and her new love Marius?

History of Les Miserables

Premiering in London in 1985, Les Miserables is the longest-running musical in the West End and the second longest-running musical in the world. Over the years, the production has won 3 Laurence Olivier and 8 Tony Awards.
