About The Gruffalo

Join Mouse on a daring adventure through the deep, dark wood in Tall Stories magical, musical adaptation of the classic picture book by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler.

The Story

Searching for hazelnuts, Mouse meets the cunning Fox, the eccentric old Owl and the high-spirited Snake. Will the story of the terrifying Gruffalo save Mouse from ending up as dinner for these hungry woodland creatures? After all, there’s no such thing as a Gruffalo; is there?

History of The Gruffalo

Originally published in 1999, The Gruffalo has gone on to become an international favourite, selling over 13 million copies worldwide. The book, written by Julia Donaldson and illustrated by Axel Scheffler, has been adapted into an animated film which was nominated for an Oscar. The Gruffalo stage show, adapted by Tall Stories theatre company, has toured the world and returns to the West End in 2019 playing at the Lyric Theatre from July to September.
