About Calendar Girls The Musical

The inspiring story of the Calendar Girls makes its way to Cardiff’s Donald Gordon Theatre in 2019. Based on a true story, David Pugh and Dafydd Rogers bring Gary Barlow and Tim Firth’s incredible new musical comedy to life. Set within a small Yorkshire village, Calendar Girls The Musical follows the lives of a group of women who achieve something extraordinary.

The Story

Based within a Yorkshire village, Calendar Girls The Musical follows the true story of a group of women who do something that they have never done before... In order to raise funds to buy a new settee for their local hospital and to commemorate the memory of one of their husbands, a group of ordinary woman decide to appear nude for a Women’s Institute calendar. With the intention of making a small difference to their little village, the Calendar Girls go on to making a lasting impression on not just their little village, but the whole country, raising a total of £5million for Bloodwise to date. The hilarious musical shows the inspiring story of how it all happened as they made history, the effect it had on their families, the village and of course themselves.

History of Calendar Girls The Musical

The original story of what inspired the Calendar Girls phenomenon happened back in 1999 as the husband of a Yorkshire lady passed away. The story of the Calendar girls has gone down in history, inspiring screen and stage adaptations including Tim Firth’s play and film starring Helen Mirren and Julie Walters. Tim Firth has closely worked with Gary Barlow to create this next Calendar Girls hit. Being a part of Take That, Gary has written and co-written 14 number one singles and sold over 50 million records worldwide - with Tim Firth’s incredible achievements throughout his career, including the award for Best Comedy Film for Calendar Girls, this new musical is guaranteed to be a success.
