Annie - Cardiff - Theatre Show Information
The best loved family favourite comes to Cardiff’s Donald Gordon Theatre this August!
Don't miss arguably one of the greatest musicals of all time. Based on the popular Harold Gray comic strip Little Orphan Annie, the show follows a young girl as she starts life in a 1930s orphanage and spends Christmas at the house of a billionaire. From 19 – 31 August 2019, you can watch the feelgood magic come alive in Cardiff’s Donald Gordon Theatre. You'll be singing along to the smash-hit soundtrack including It's The Hard-Knock Life and Easy Street.
The musical is set in 1930s New York during The Great Depression, the young Annie lives a life of misery at Miss Hannigan’s dire orphanage. Her luck soon changes when she's chosen to spend Christmas with famous billionaire, Oliver Warbucks. Back at the orphanage, Miss Hannigan hatches a plan to spoil Annie's search for her true family.
History of Annie
Annie had its world premiere on August 10, 1976 at the Goodspeed Opera House in East Haddam and was an instant hit. The New York Times critic Clive Barnes wrote: ‘To dislike the new musical Annie would be tantamount to disliking motherhood, peanut butter, friendly mongrel dogs and nostalgia.’ Annie has been popular ever since and, at one point, starred Strictly Come Dancing Judge, Craig Revel Horwood as Miss Hannigan.
