Weekend in Sussex

Stay Date: 05/10/07, a customer from Wigan who stayed at 3* The Albany Lions Hotel in Eastbourne wrote this review.

After meeting some people from Eastbourne whilst on holiday in Morocco, we took the opportunity to visit them on our return, and at the same time take in a place we had never visited before, apart See More  Read more information from breakfast in the hotel which was great we had little need to eat out anywhere in the evening and only needed a snack for lunch. The hotel was good and friendly, but on the only occasion that wewanted to eat in, the night of an important rugby match, I telephoned the advertised room service and was told that it wasn't available. Being reasonably mobile myself I had no use for the stairliftthat had been installed up to the 2nd floor, however it did cross my mind that there was no obvious entrance to the hotel except up about 4 or 5 steps from the street, with no access for the disabled.   Collapse  Hide

Recuperation in Brighton

Stay Date: 19/02/08, a customer who stayed at 2* Royal Albion Hotel in Brighton wrote this review.

This was a short break after a spell in hospital, the fresh air and the walking were perfect to get me up and about again; Brighton has a seedy feel about it which makes it that little bit special, See More  Read more information you are never quite sure what kind of shop or venue you might stumble into. The hotel was built in the 1820's and would still be at home in this era, the reception, lounge and bar area's were fine, the "restaurant" was more like a cafe (but not quite as nice) and the bedrooms were dire; we had to move rooms due to the noise and the fact that the springs in both of our matresses were stickingthrough, the second room was not much better with slightly less knackered matresses. There were of course seaview rooms with non-knackered matresses for an additional fee (we declined) Overall, Brightonwas a great place for a short break but wild horses wouldn't drag me back to the Royal Albion hotel. Short Break In Brighton

Stay Date: 23/08/08, a customer who stayed at 4* The Old Ship Hotel in Brighton wrote this review.

Good food and staff were Ok but the hotel room left something to be desired. A tiny bathroom which could not accommodate two people at one go. Windows were not double glazed and were so filthy that See More  Read more information no view was possible. Window sill were also dirty. In a medium wind the windows rattled loudly. Central heating piping all over the place (can't it be boxed in?). Room was very hot (no environmantalcontrol apart from opening window - which was out of the question - see below). The noisiest room I have ever stayed in. People yelling and screaming all through the night. I know its a sea front hoteland a lively city but surely!! Ear plugs were a must in order to get any sleep but even these failed to cut out the din.   Collapse  Hide

A Spoiled Weekend

Stay Date: 25/10/08, a customer from Brighton who stayed at 4* Mercure Maidstone Great Danes in Maidstone wrote this review.

The Hotel looked fine on first views, ans the room seemed OK, if a bit small and hot. Restaurant was very busy, and only fixed price buffet was available, which was awful. Went back to room still See More  Read more information hungry and bought some crisps at the bar. Room still seemed hot, windows didn't open. Woke up at 2am gasping for air and SO hot, we were panicking to get out. Had to get 2 fans from staff to be able tosleep. Felt terrible the next day, and it spoilt the whole weekend. Leeds Castle was very good, and then went to Rochester. Great little museum, and lovely old fashioned sweet shop. Made up for theterrible night we had   Collapse  Hide
