You suggested the Novotel, which was in a good location and looked nice. The room was comfortable and clean. The general facilites were good but the hotel was let down by the lack of sufficient See More  Read more information staff and organisation. I wouldnt have said the hotel was particulary busy but the bar, and waiting staff were all overworked and consequently ineficient. We had to wait in line for nearly 20 minuteswhile they filled the breakfast buffet after running out of food. Not what you expect on your Wedding Anniversary treat weekend away. On complaining to the reception of the dealy etc they accepted ourcomplaint very graciously and said we had been one of many that morning to complain and as compensation offered two x 1.50GBP vouchers (adding insult to injury) toward local attractions for ourinconvenience (which we could not use). We decided not to allow this to spoil our much looked forward to break but can not really recomend the hotel. The Novotel was fantastice, clean, modern and the staff were very friendly. I would recommend that poeple travel by bus around Edinburgh as the buses are good and reliable and cheap!
