Clifton Hotel, Scarborough

Stay Date: 23/10/06, a customer from Newark who stayed at 2* Clifton Hotel in Scarborough wrote this review.

This hotel enjoys a very prominent position overlooking the North Bay. It is very comfortably furnished and at least some of the bedrooms have been very nicely refurbished. The food at dinner was See More  Read more information excellent, but the hot breakfast was rarely as hot as it could have been; certain parts of it could be actually cold when first delivered to the table. Scarborough is a very nice place to visit; thewalk along Prince Albert Drive from the North Bay to the Town Centre is very invigorating. BUT if you do stay at the Clifton you need to be aware that the North Side of the hotel is completely coveredby scaffolding, apparently so that outside painting can be done, but it does spoil the view from the large number of bedrooms on that side.   Collapse  Hide

First Visit

Stay Date: 23/02/07, a customer who stayed at 2* Clifton Hotel in Scarborough wrote this review.

As a Westcountryman a winter visit "up north" was anticipated with some trepidation. In the event the visit was a great success with trips up the coast as far as Whitby. And Whitby was a real eye See More  Read more information opener - an absolute joy, as indeed were the coastal villages visited en route. Even more surprising was an enjoyable visit to Hull (Where we met up with a pal from the old days) We willcertainly go again and for longer next time   Collapse  Hide

Stay Date: 09/03/07, a customer who stayed at 3* The Royal Hotel & Spa Scarborough in Scarborough wrote this review.

We had heard so much about Alan Ayckbourn`s theatre in Scarborough that we wanted to visit it.We had no idea what a wonderful place the builing itself would be! The old Odeon cinema has been See More  Read more information beautifully restored to look just as it did when it opened in 1936 - even the carpet has been specially woven. On the first visit we had a special rate meal served while the performance is on. Then wereturned the following night to see an Ayckbourn play in the round. Both meal and play were excellent!   Collapse  Hide

Weekend Break in Scarborough

Stay Date: 23/03/07, a customer who stayed at 2* Clifton Hotel in Scarborough wrote this review.

Scarborough is a surprisingly attractive Victorian/Edwardian seaside town eminating olde englishe charm and the Clifton Hotel on the North Shore clifftop carries this aura too making the picture See More  Read more information complete. Perfect place for a base for a long overdue visit to York and the Minster, which drips history and really needs much longer thena a day trip. Could have happily missed the 275 steps up theMinster tower though. Very narrow and very steep. Not for the faint hearted or remotely unfit! Finishing with a Sunday morning walk along sunny Scarborough seafront - a perfect weekend.   Collapse  Hide

Short Break in Yorkshire

Stay Date: 06/04/07, a customer who stayed at 2* Clifton Hotel in Scarborough wrote this review.

The National Railway Museum is well worth a visit and totally free. Got some good stills of Mallard, and other vintage locomotives and rolling stock. Its a wonderful thrill on the Yorkshire Wheel, See More  Read more information which is at the side of the National Railway Museum. York Minster is another great attraction, and finally a sail on the river Ouse. Appropriately named, it does flood in heavy rain.   Collapse  Hide
