This morning take the time to explore Newcastle, situated on the Tyne Newcastle is home to a fantastic variety of shops and restaurants, as well as some world-renowned galleries and museums. In the afternoon, you could then take the 15-minute train journey to Durham and visit the beautiful Durham Cathedral, and take a leisurely stroll up to the city's Norman castle.Read more
After breakfast you can make your way to the station to catch the direct train to Carlisle; the journey takes approximately 90 minutes and the line follows the route of Hadrian's Wall. In Carlisle you can visit the medieval Carlise Cathedral and the grand Carlisle Castle, and then from there, you can continue via Oxenholme to Windermere, the pretty town which takes its name from the Lake District's most famous body of water. Use Windermere as the base for exploring the stunning region, cruising across the lake or walking one of the many scenic hiking trails.Read more
Today you could travel to the delightful market town of Hexham - there are trains twice hourly and the journey lasts 30 minutes. Located to the west of Newcastle, Hexham is famed for its stone architecture and cobbled streets. Once there, you can venture to the medieval Hexham Abbey, from here you can then take the AD122 bus from the town centre (payable locally) and head out to see one of Britain's most famous Roman monuments, Hadrian's Wall - here you can take in the countryside scenery and enjoy a pleasant walk.Read more

The Northern England Explorer allows you to travel between Newcastle and many destinations in Northern England including Durham, Hexham, Carlisle, Leeds, York, Harrogate, Berwick-upon-Tweed and the Northumberland Coast.

Time Restrictions: Rail tickets are available for travel on trains timed to depart after 09:00am Mondays to Fridays and at any time on weekends and bank holidays.
Using your ticket: Tickets are valid for 4 days within a 8 day period. When a passenger needs to validate a ticket, the date of travel should be completed in black ink using numerical values only for 'Day' and 'Month' e.g. 07 09 for travel from 7th September. The ticket will need validating before the first journey of the first day of travel.
