Short Break Boost In Bookings At The End Of May23 April 2009

Superbreak expects 20% increase in customers for late May Bank Holiday and Half Term

Superbreak expects to see an increase of about 15% in bookings through the trade over the late May bank holiday weekend and half term compared to last year. Last year, a total of 6,000 people booked a May Bank Holiday short break through agents, whereas this year has seen 4,500 people book already, and with over one third of people expected to book within two weeks of travel, the total is predicted to be 7,000 people.

Chris Cundall, sales support manager at Superbreak comments “The late May Bank Holiday is always a popular time for people to get away for a few days and with less people expected to travel abroad this year, this bank holiday will attract more people than ever before. It tends to be a lot of families who travel during this period with theme parks such as Legoland and Alton Towers doing particularly well. With couples, it tends to be historic cities such as York and Stratford Upon Avon which prove more popular. London, though, will be no doubt the biggest seller for Superbreak with people taking advantage of great rail fares to the capital.”

Other reasons that Superbreak attribute the increase in sales are that many people will take advantage of an impulse purchase, inspired by the right offer in an agent’s window and also that there are many deals with hotels offering free dinner on the first night to provide extra added value.

Last minute offers will be available for travel agents right up to the day before departure on
