Good wee trip to France

Stay Date: 28/04/18, a customer aged 18-24 from Preston who stayed at 3* Timhotel Nation in Paris wrote this review.

After not having had a holiday for years and figuring that it was high time to have one, I figured I'd head over to Paris for a few days and include a day in Lyon. Despite the minor issues with See More  Read more information the Eurostar (which Super Break informed me about before the trip and sorted out. Top marks for sorting that all out.) the journey over was relatively painless. Having stayed at the hotel before I knewwhat I was expecting. A no-thrills, clean and good located hotel with comfy beds and an excellent breakfast. Admittedly, the rooms were a bit dated and could have done with a bit of TLC (having topress hard on the bathroom light switch) but the rooms were clean. Coming back to the breakfast, that was arguably the best thing about the hotel. There was a lot of choice and everything was niceand fresh and presented well. The only thing that was potentially missing was some fresh fruit such as bananas or apples however the rest of the breakfast more than made up for that omission. Thehotel is actually located between two metro stations and if coming from Gare du Nord, it actually makes more sense to take line 5 and then change onto line 9 to get there. Alight at Buzenval and simplywalk down the street about 2 minutes and you'll see the hotel. Location wise, it's in one of the nicer suburbs of Paris and has a whole host of local brasseries and small supermarches. Le bistrot dAvron in particular is well worth a visit. If you are there for a few days then I highly recommend taking a day trip to Lyon. There are regular TGV's from the Gare de Lyon and the journey is all overand done in just over 2 hours. I highly recommend the Musee Miniature et Cinema for a visit and also L'Entrecôte which is located Rue de la République. Arguably the best steak I have everhad. Overall though, it was a highly enjoyable holiday and I will certainly be booking through Super Break for future holidays.   Collapse  Hide

Weekend in Paris

Stay Date: 07/12/17, a customer aged 45-64 who stayed at 4* The Playce Hotel By HappyCulture in Paris wrote this review.

I stayed in the Best Western Montmartre Sacre Coeur Hotel. The receptionist didn’t have my details on the computer, and hadn’t expected me. However, he took my paperwork and corrected the problem See More  Read more information giving me a room on the 5th floor. My room was clean and comfortable, bathroom and shower facility was great. The room had a TV, and there is WiFi throughout the hotel. Room safe also available. Breakfast was rather basic but good. Guests could help themselves to hot and cold drinks. The hotel was a short walk away from the Metro. Plenty of local shops and great pharmacies all within walkingdistance. The market on Saturday was open well into the evening. I used the metro to go to - The Champs Èlysèes, Notre Dame and Pigalle. The Metro is cheaper and a convenient way to return back totrain station when returning home. There are many small ‘eateries’ I soon learned that it was quite pricey on the Champs Èlysèes, but once off the.main street and into a smaller establishment I had areally 1st class meal for 14 Euros, which was amazing.   Collapse  Hide

Paris - Winter Break

Stay Date: 19/01/17, a customer aged 45-64 from Pontefract who stayed at 3* Best Western Ronceray Opera in Paris wrote this review.

Hotel Ronceray d'Opera - good hotel in a tremendous location for what we wanted on this trip to Paris. Rooms ok, but typically Parisian, small, compact and with nowhere to put anything. However, the See More  Read more information location made up for it - we have visited Paris several times and it was what we expected in this price bracket. Versailles, the Louvre and Tuileries were wonderful as expected. With the hotel'sproximity to the Grands Boulevards Metro, getting around was easy and the trip out to Versailles caused no problems at all. The restaurants locally to the hotel were good and varied, allowing plenty ofchoice to suit different tastes and budgets. Being literally around the corner from the wonderful Bouillon Chartier, which we've visited on several previous occasions, was a bonus. Get there early andbe prepared to queue - it's definitely worth the wait for a taste of authentic France in a timeless setting. The Ice Cube Bar on the 7th floor of Galeries Lafayette was a new find for us - stunningviews over Paris with an outdoor (or indoor if you prefer) bar - pricey, but not too ridiculous! SuperBreak's organisation of tickets for trains, Eurostar etc was spot on. All paperwork, tickets, vouchers etc worked as they should with no hitches. We have always been pleased with SuperBreak - once again you helped us create a memorable trip! Thanks.   Collapse  Hide

Paris and the attractions were great, the metro underground was easy to use to get around, however the hotel wasn't so great for us. The following day we packed up, took our stuff to reception and complained. When we returned from a day out in lovely Paris,we got told all was sorted and we could return to our room. In love with Paris!

Stay Date: 09/09/16, a customer aged 45-64 who stayed at 3* Hotel Jardins d'Eiffel in Paris wrote this review.

I visited Paris for a long weekend with my best friend. The hotel Jardins d'Eiffel was perfectly located within Les Invalides district, a very short walk from the Eiffel Tower, the Seine and the See More  Read more information metro, and close to an array of restaurants and shops. Despite its busy location, the hotel and our room were quiet and peaceful. Our stay included a very good buffet breakfast which set us up for a dayof sight seeing. During our stay we visited the top viewing platform of the Eiffel Tower with spectacular views across Paris! On our first day we used the Batobus hop-on-hop-off service which was agreat combination of a relaxed boat trip and a perfect means of transport to visit key landmarks and areas. Notre Dame was a highlight of that trip. Would highly recommend the Batobus which was verygood value and very enjoyable. On day two we used the Metro (very easy) and visited Montmartre. We took the Funiculaire up to the Sacre Coeur (stunningly beautiful) and took in the vast vista across thecity. We enjoyed a coffee in a cafe and enjoyed looking around the market stalls and small shops close by. Back down in Montmartre we explored the lovely shops and Patisseries, and then spent an hourover lunch and wine whilst people watching in a pavement bistro. This was followed by a stroll to the Pigalle District to see the Moulin Rouge. Our final evening was made perfect by a beautiful (ifexpensive) meal at Le Fontaine de Mars restaurant near our hotel, followed by a stroll to the Eiffel Tower again to watch the hourly wonderful 'light show' when the tower sparkles with thousands oftwinkling bulbs (on the hour when it's dark, for about 5 minutes). A cocktail rounded off the evening. Our whole trip was enhanced by booking a return taxi between the airport and hotel as part of ourpackage with SuperBreak. I have booked through SuperBreak several times before and they are my 'go to' for all Europe city breaks. My trip to Paris, as with all other trips booked with SuperBreak, wasfantastic value and both the booking process and trip were effortless and trouble free from booking through to my return home. Paris in two nights

Stay Date: 20/08/16, a customer aged 45-64 who stayed at 3* Palm Astotel in Paris wrote this review.

We did Sacre Couer, Monmarte (including crepes for See More  Read more information lunch), Place de la Concorde, Jardin de Tuilleries the outside of the Louvre, Notre Dame and dinner on the banks of the Seine on the Saturday. Then we did the Centre George Pompidou on the Monday before catching the train home. The only disappointment was the problems we had with trains on the way back from London to Southampton (we couldn't get off at our destination station and ended up stranded at another station).   Collapse  Hide

Family trip to Paris

Stay Date: 02/08/16, a customer aged 25-44 who stayed at 3* Grand Hotel de Paris - Gare du Nord in Paris wrote this review.

We arrived by Eurostar and we're pleased that our hotel was only a ten minute walk from the station. The hotel entrance is a small door between two cafe canopies, bit tricking to spot unless you're See More  Read more information looking up for the sign. Gentleman on reception was very friendly and although we arrived earlier than the check in time of 2pm our room was ready. We were on the 3rd floor and had a family room for 4with a double bed and two single beds which was a large room on the corner of the building overlooking quite a busy road. The windows are double glazed which does reduce the noise unless it's hotlike it was on our visit and we had to leave the windows open a little. First impressions on the room were that it was a bit dull with various shades of brown on carpet, walls and bedding, saying thatafter we unpacked opened the windows overlooking the busy street we agreed that this was a Parisian style hotel! The breakfast was continental style served by friendly staff. Location was good, metrostation outside of hotel, if you're planning on using the metro buy the tickets in books which contain 10 tickets, it work out much cheaper for each journey. Only 30 minute walk down to the riversideand Notre Dame. We did an excellent river cruise which went from the foot of the Eiffel Tower down the river for an hour. Would recommend doing this just before sunset as the lights come on the towerthen the lights start to do a chaser motion like Christmas lights! Visited the tower we decided to take the stairs option as it worked out cheaper, sounds daunting but not too bad really, just over 350stairs to 1st floor then you can take in the views have a look round the shop or visit the cafe, then another few hundred stairs to 2nd level. Once here you have got the option to pay to get the liftto the summit, we didn't 2nd floor was high enough for me! We were up there for 2 hrs so give yourself plenty of time to climb the stairs and look round. Finally Eurostar was excellent only need tocheck in 30 mins before departure only 2 hrs 20 mins to get there and only 20 mins of that in tunnel. Much easier than flying and you can take your own food and drink on board.   Collapse  Hide

Budget Hotel back end of Paris Nord

Stay Date: 21/02/16, a customer aged 45-64 who stayed at 3* Faubourg Hotel 216-224 - Gare du Nord in Paris wrote this review.

Eurostar London St.Pancras to Paris Gare Du Nord, walk out the front of the station round to the left, down the side of the station and after a very few minutes walk, there is the hotel on your See More  Read more information right, splendid, nice and easy. Sadly that is where the location recommendation ends, this appears to be one of Paris's most run down, dark, dismal, dirty, non welcoming places. Checked in without anyproblems or delays and were directed to the other entrance along the road as the part that had check in was being renovated. Entered the "Renovated" other part of hotel and used the very small lift up tothe 5th floor where we had a double (that is a single room with a double bed, I know Paris hotel rooms are small, but this was tiny) room overlooking the inner courtyard. Yes the room had beenrenovated but there were finishing touches and odd bits of trim missing. Yes it had been cleaned but odd bits had been missed, streak on door, mark on bedding, stains on curtains, window frames dirty, dustand smear on TV, etc. The shower room and toilet and basin were just about big enough to use but we both kept knocking toes or knees or elbows on taps, wall, shower base etc due to lack of space, andmy wife found the first time she used the shower that as she turned her back caught and nudged up the shower temperature so as to cause a possible scalding risk. The room was equipped with all of twohangers, half a shelf, a large flat screen TV, a telephone, a small fridge, but there was not any facility for making a hot drink, also a FREE to use electronic safe and FREE to use Air Conditioningas well as a very warming radiator and a sort of desk/vanity unit that was just a big shelf against the wall. So with so little in the way of clothes storage we lived out of our cases for the 2nights/3 days. Biggest bugbear of the room had to be the endless noise of the drip from a leak over the courtyard which is shared with other properties, drip, drip, drip, all night long, not conducive to agood nights sleep. Breakfast is taken downstairs in the reception area of the ground floor, where you find you are joined by guests from the other building which is being renovated, or they may havejust been people walking in from the street. We found that if there was a problem like the coffee machine stopped working due to a full drip tray, or the croissants or rolls or cheese or meat or cerealran out, you wait so long you are just about to give up and go without before the problem is fixed, if it ever is. Having said all the above and probably forgotten a few of the other niggles, we wouldgive it an OK for budget price but beware the area rating.   Collapse  Hide

Too short Super Break

Stay Date: 16/04/15, a customer aged 65+ who stayed at 3* Timhotel Paris Gare de l’est in Paris wrote this review.

The hotel was spotless but the shower was very small and awkward to enter and exit. The wardrobe was also quite small. The hotel was an easy walk from the Gare du Nord, and was in a great location See More  Read more information for getting around. The dining room was also spotless and the tables were cleared very quickly. The staff were very polite and helpful. There is a park almost opposite the hotel which was clean andfull of blossom trees. The Canal St.Martin is a short walk away. Make sure you visit L'Atmosphere for a meal -the food is fantastic and inexpensive. Bouillon Chartier Restaurant was well worth standingin the queue - it moved quite quickly and was very organised. The waiting staff had phenomenal memories as they write your order on the paper table cloth not on a note pad, and somehow remembered whatyou ordered and when to bring the next course and they were extremely cheerful and friendly- it was like visiting Paris from yesteryear. L'As du Fallafel was well worth a visit as the queue isorganised and they take you order and payment whilst you are queueing. The only downside is finding somewhere to sit and eat it. Take care crossing roads - the metro and RER are easy to navigate, buy acarnet of 10 tickets and ask for a free map (if you can wait this is cheaper at the metro). Try to avoid the metro when the Parisiens are trying to get to work as the carriages are packed, even so peopleremained very polite. Be prepared for beggars in the streets, metro and especially the Gare du Nord. The toilets below the Sacre - Coeur are beyond description however there is a kiosk and shop next tothe funicular and the toilets are spotless it cost €1 but was well worth it. The coffee is really nice and great after climbing to the top of The Dome's 300 steps - well worth it for a great 360view. Make sure you use the toilets in shops, cafes and museums before you leave. If you can, try to go to Sainte-Chapelle and Musee d'Orsay in time for opening as the queues get very long.   Collapse  Hide

The toilet was a little on the small side - it was separate to the shower-room, and even though we are both small in stature, we found it a bitof a squeeze with the door shut! However that would not deter us from returning to the very same room if we returned to the hotel! There were tea and coffee making facilities in the room, and twobottles of water on our arrival. (We bought more water from a small supermarket just round the corner from the hotel, which was most convenient). It was lovely to find a safe for valuables, money etc, inthe wardrobe, and it was free to use, which was a bonus as so many hotels charge a fee for a safe. Breakfast was very good, with a choice of breads, preserves, cakes, cold meats, cheeses, cereals, fresh fruit, fromage blanc (like a cross between yogurt, fromage frais and creme fraiche!) and tea, coffee and fruit juice. You could eat well at breakfast and not need much lunch if you chose to dothat. The hotel is in an ideal location, being about a five minute walk from the Metro station Grands Boulevards, and The Gare du Nord is also within easy walking distance, although we used the Metroon our way there, and a taxi on our return, which cost less than 10 euros. It took about 20 minuts to get to the Eiffel Tower on the Metro and RER, and about 25 minutes on the Metro to the SacreCoeur. The large department stores like Galleries Lafayette and Printemps are about a 15 minutes walk away. We look forward to another visit to Paris at some point and would certainly stay at the HotelPeyris Opera again.   Collapse  Hide

Mercure Montmartre Sacre Coeur

Stay Date: 13/08/14, a customer aged 45-64 from Whickham who stayed at 4* Mercure Montmartre Sacre Coeur in Paris wrote this review.

Gem of a hotel at a fantastic price by Paris standards. Well located for bars, restaurants and the nearby Place De Clichy metro station which makes getting around to the various sights and See More  Read more information attractions of Paris a doddle. Clean and well appointed with a reasonably priced bar/terraced seating area located on the first floor. acceptable continental breakfast (included in our deal) however weencountered short queues to be seated on both days of our stay. Our bedroom was clean and comfortable with separate bathroom and toilet. It also had a free safe and fridge within but no iron. Being aseasoned traveller to Paris this is definitely one of the better (and certainly more roomy) hotels I have stayed in and the Superbreak Eurostar inclusive deal we purchased was excellent value particularlygiven the free river cruise which is an absolute must. (Single adult ticket price €14). The hotel itself is approximately 2 miles (5 minutes drive) from the Gare Du Nord Eurostar terminal and literallyjust around the corner from the Moulin Rouge. Word of warning though when arriving at the taxi queue at the Gare Du Nord railway station we were immediately approached by a well dressed male with alaminated sheet who advised that the 'official' taxi fare was €95 (€75) to our hotel. We were then approached by a second male male and negotiated a fare of €30 which included his €10 finderscommission. The fare should actually be around €15 however we took the deal as there were long queues, it was raining and we travelled with American friends who had large cases. For the return journey we bookeda taxi directly through the hotel and were assured that the price should be no more than €15, needless to say upon our arrival at the station our driver (who did not speak a word of English) was ableto communicate that he wanted €23 when his meter read €16.80! The moral of the story is avoid taxi's unless absolutely necessary and purchase day tickets for the metro system which are not onlyexcellent value (we paid €24.90 per head for 3 days unlimited travel) but undoubtedly the most efficient way to navigate the sights of the city.   Collapse  Hide

Staying in Paris

Stay Date: 12/05/14, a customer aged 45-64 from Solihull who stayed at 3* Palm Astotel in Paris wrote this review.

We stayed within walking distance of Gard du Nord which avoids transporting luggage on Metro. There are many scare stories about being accosted by street sellers on Trip Advisor - we did not find it that bad. Plenty of queues in Paris

Stay Date: 17/04/14, a customer aged 45-64 who stayed at 3* Alane Hotel - Gare du Nord in Paris wrote this review.

After an unfortunate 7.5 hour delay on Eurostar we thoroughly enjoyed our 4 day visit to Paris. The Alane Hotel was excellent but the rooms are a little small. The breakfast area is even smaller but See More  Read more information quite adequate as we were out most of the time. The Gard du Nord & Gard L'est areas of Paris are not the best areas although we didn't have any trouble the streets were dirty and littered. There wereseveral homeless people laying about and often the smell of urine in the doorways and allies. Everywhere was very busy over the Easter break and we didn't go in to any of the main attractions becauseof the queues. Managed to get in to Versailles after about a 2 hour wait with a tour group entry ticket. Overall, wouldn't do Paris again at Easter but we did enjoy our holiday.   Collapse  Hide

Busy time in Paris

Stay Date: 18/04/14, a customer aged 45-64 who stayed at 3* Avalon Hotel Gare du Nord in Paris wrote this review.

The hotel is located within a few minutes walk of the Gard du Nord - leave the station through the front entrance and turn left! The hotel rooms are very small but have all you need for a short See More  Read more information stay, our room was clean but the bathroom was a little 'tatty'! Breakfast was a continental buffet which was fine with enough choice apart from the last morning when there was no bread fortoast!! The bus stops outside the hotel and is easy to use as is the Metro which is only a couple of minutes away, the hotel receptionists were helpful and told us the easiest way to get to where we wanted tobe! Queuing for the attractions was always going to be part of the trip, but everything is so disorganised - expect to wait a while and keep an eye on queue jumpers!! Everywhere has lots if stepstoo!   Collapse  Hide

Paris in the Spring

Stay Date: 16/04/14, a customer aged 45-64 from Portsmouth who stayed at 3* Avalon Hotel Gare du Nord in Paris wrote this review.

The Avalon Hotel was an excellent place to stay. 3mins walk from Gare du Nord station so getting around Paris was easy. Got a 10 ticket metro pass which was good value. Bedroom at the hotel was See More  Read more information basic but lovely and clean and the beds really comfy. Good continental breakfast each morning, with a nice choice of food. Lots of good restaurants around station to eat in evening,if you didn't want tostay right in the centre. Lots of lovely places to eat (and good value) in the Latin Quarter.   Collapse  Hide

A three day Paris break!

Stay Date: 13/04/14, a customer aged 25-44 from London who stayed at 3* Avalon Hotel Gare du Nord in Paris wrote this review.

The hotel was your typical B and B and that was all you got really, the rooms were clean but do need a good updated make over. The sights were amazing. The Eiffel Tower wasn't much to look at at See More  Read more information first, but when you go up to the summit you can see the whole of Paris and it was incredible. At night it is all lit up and an even more amazing sight. The river cruise was wonderful if a littlechilly on a late Sunday afternoon. You get to see all the sights from the tower to Notre Dame and the Opera House as well as all the detailed bridges. The bus was a hop on hop off tour. We got offonly a few times. At the Louve we walked through to see the glass pyramids, walked through Tuileries garden to Concorde and Madeline church as well as seeing Arch de Triomphe. We then hopped back on toNortre Dame which was a breathtaking sight. The Catacombs, although we had to stand in line for three hours to get in was astonishing and the perfect way to end the week.   Collapse  Hide

Good place to stay close to all Paris transport links

Stay Date: 30/03/14, a customer aged 65+ from Chatham who stayed at 3* Avalon Hotel Gare du Nord in Paris wrote this review.

Only serious gripe was the hopeless Wifi connection. Had to re enter password and user name every time I wanted to use the internet. A number 30 bus outside hotel takes one to the Eiffel Tower. The See More  Read more information metro at Gare du Norde takes you close to Pompidou Centre and Latin Quarter. A good cheap place to stay for general exploration. Avoid all means of transport during the rush hour. Be polite - theFrench expect at least a 'good morning' etc even if you just buying a bottle of water at a kiosk.   Collapse  Hide

Three night break in Paris

Stay Date: 25/03/14, a customer aged 65+ who stayed at 3* Timhotel Paris Gare de l’est in Paris wrote this review.

I would recommend the hotel to my family and friends if they were wanting to stay in Paris. It was walking distance from Gare du Nord and many interesting places to see. It was also located in a See More  Read more information very nice part of Paris which we felt was very French rather than touristy. The hotel room was small for two women not wanting to share a bed and we could have done with at least a couple of hooks tohang our wet coats on at the end of one wet day. The rooms were clean and it was good to have a kettle. Shower worked well. Quiet neighbourhood. Very pleasant staff.   Collapse  Hide
