Oxford Area Holiday Reviews

View of All Souls College, Oxford

Book a hotel in Oxford and see that there's so much more here than just the University. A visit to Oxford means that you get to shop at the covered market, visit the world renowned Modern Art Museum or stroll through the Universities botanical gardens for a stonewalled haven of peace in the bustling city.

However, if you are booking hotels in Oxford, then it would be a crime for you not to see the University. Christ Church College is not far from most hotels, but it offers some of the most picturesque architecture in the country. The college has served as a movie set for films such as Brideshead revisited and Harry Potter. Whilst in the city centre, why not take a trip along the Thames via one of the many punting stations, before heading back to your Oxford Hotel and changing before hitting the cities restaurants and pubs.

Whilst Oxford is not the largest city, there are a number of attractions that will be within a short distance of your hotel. Nearby Woodstock offers the magnificent Blenheim Palace. Built in 1704 for the John Churchill, The Duke of Marlborough, it was named after his recent victory in Blenheim. At Woodstock you can also find the elegant St. Mary Magdalene Church. The charming medieval market of Witney and the picturesque countryside of the Cotswolds are also close by. For that idyllic Cotswold market town, why not visit Burford, which has one of the best 'wool' churches in the country.

So you can see that Oxford has a lot more to offer than just a University, so why not book a hotel in Oxford today and see what this city and the Cotswolds have to offer.

Woodstock is a beautiful little village in the Oxfordshire countryside and a stones throw from Blenham Palace. The service at the Bear is exceptional. We were travelling from Boston in Lincolnshire and the roads are not clearly signed all the way, After 12 roundabouts and signs that lookedlike they had been stolen and not replaced with just posts remaining it was a little stressful next time we would take the train. De Vere Venue Milton Hill House

Stay Date: 12/07/08, a customer from Milton Keynes who stayed at 3* Milton Hill House in Abingdon wrote this review.

We had a great time at the De Vere Venue Milton Hill Hse. 22 Acres of land to wonder around, a large connect 4 game to play and numerous other games that were available. Brilliant place to visit. See More  Read more information Resturant could have done with bar meals and sensibly dressed area split as the price of food warrented a more formal setting. Breakfast could have done with out the toast machine being next to thebridal table, and we've suggested that it is asked when ordering tea/coffee. Local attractions, other then Oxford are disappointing and would recommend only visiting Oxford. Shame as there is a lot ofhistory in Abingdon.   Collapse  Hide

A Memorable Weekend

Stay Date: 12/04/08, a customer from Superbreak who stayed at 4* Macdonald Bear Hotel in Woodstock wrote this review.

We booked three rooms at The Bear to celebrate my parents 50th Wedding Anniversary. Two rooms were in the courtyard and one in the 13th century main building. Ages ranged from 7 to 76, and I am See More  Read more information delighted to say everybody simply loved the place. We dined on Saturday night in The Cotswold Room. A private room where we ate from the main restaurant menu. The food, service and wines wereimpeccable. Breakfast on Sunday was a treat too, on a table for 8 in a bay window. We were bathed in spring sunshine. We then spent the whole day exploring Blenheim Palace. The children had such a goodtime. It really was a perfect weekend. Thank you to all the staff at The Bear who made us feel so welcome.   Collapse  Hide
