Great break at Grey St Hotel Newcastle

Stay Date: 29/04/19, a customer aged 65+ from Nottingham who stayed at 4* Grey Street Hotel in Newcastle-upon-Tyne wrote this review.

Hotel is excellent, great position, close to station shops, bars restaurants and riverfront. Some rooms can be noisy at night but that cannot be helped and no fault of the hotel! (and they did give See More  Read more information you earplugs if you needed them). But no problem in our room - spotlessly clean, free safe, tea and coffee making facilities renewed each day and extra if you need it at reception, ironing board andiron, proper hair dryer, large flat screen TV, lovely toiletries and towels, staff excellent so pleasant, helpful & friendly. If there was a bar & restaurant would be a much higher rating! But they arein the process of being refurbished and I would give it a 4 now! We did lots of shopping, eating, drinking and walking round this lovely place, very interesting! Also caught a bus and had a greattime at Beamish Museum, all thanks to suggestion from lovely people on reception, all in all a great few days break. Would definitely return and recommend. Thank you from 4 happy ladies.   Collapse  Hide

Garth Hall Weekend

Stay Date: 23/08/14, a customer aged 45-64 who stayed at 3* Hall Garth Hotel, Golf & Country Club in Darlington wrote this review.

Lovely hotel in the countryside close to motorway, very easy to find. We received upgrade to the Greystones Suite which included separate sitting room and bedroom, located in a two storey cottage See More  Read more information building with entrance on the main road. Modern and spacious, lovely toiletries in a large bathroom. Only negative point was double quilt on double bed, rather neat for two adults to share, though setteein lounge converted to a comfortable bed. Quick and attentive service in Oswald's, delicious food. Less expensive options available in The Stables bar where my husband enjoyed his favourite meal -Eggs Benedict. Again lovely food and friendly staff. Nice grounds and swimming pool with excellent changing facilities (including a couple of cubicles) for those using the pool or gym. Attractive golfcourse too, with water feature near the hotel conservatory, where players entertained those enjoying breakfast. Breakfast on Sunday served super quickly though service on Monday not as efficient asstaff slow to replenish, milk, cereal bowls, juices, etc. Some guests had to wait a while for their cooked orders but Janey dealt with them as quickly as she could - always with a smile. As stated byprevious reviewers, staff in all areas very friendly and a credit to the hotel. Good location for visiting Darlington, Durham, Bowes Museum or High Force waterfall. Would recommend and more than happyto return.   Collapse  Hide

Place on a whole good value for what we got, evening meals are ok but anything worth having has got a supplement on it (why is this notmentioned when booking or in the menu supplied in the room !) after dinner coffee @?3.00 a cup is extortionate. Best bits were the bed (6x6 super king size) and that fire hose of a shower (brilliant). Oh! breakfast, excellent. Negatives................ The pork and ale sausage n mash for dinner, yuk !! The sausage tasted like they had come straight out of a 1940's ration book, pork blendedwith wood chippings. Just how do these people cook a white skinned sausage is beyond me, need to meet a Lincolnshire pork and apple or leek variety. Cumberland mmmmm for some serious taste. Dresscode, anything goes it seems even an early morning jogger in his black nylon shorts and sweaty vest. Relaxing break in a lovely location

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here in the Blackwell Grange. The room was more than adequate for what we needed. The breakfast in the hotel was fabulous, my partner even went as far to say that it was See More  Read more information the best hotel breakfast he had ever had! The meal that we got on the deal we booked was also very good. Only issue I had was that initially we were given the wrong menu and had already made achoice on food before it had been changed. There was a wedding party in the hotel at the time which meant it was particularly noisy in the hotel on the second night of our stay. I would go back and book the same deal I hadbooked, overall great location and fab break!   Collapse  Hide

Short Break in Darlington

Stay Date: 13/09/13, a customer aged 45-64 from Middlesbrough who stayed at 3* Blackwell Grange Hotel (2 Night Offer & 1st Night Dinner) in Darlington wrote this review.

Arrived on a Friday night and was greeted by a nice lady at reception. She asked what time we would like the included evening meal and gave us the room keys. The room was adequate but not anything See More  Read more information special, it was front facing on the second floor on the right hand wing of the hotel. There was an inclusive leisure facility including an indoor pool which had we known we would have been preparedfor, however that was not the hotels fault. On the Saturday after an excellent breakfast we travelled a short distance to the start of a walk around the river Tees that we had sought out. It was alovely circular 5 mile walk which took in some riverside paths, main roads and small wooded areas. The weather was very nice with rain forecast for the following day. When we had finished the walk wereturned to the Hotel, got changed and went into the Town Ctr for some shopping and leisure time. The town was nicely laid out with plenty of car parking spaces and lots of thriving shops and shoppingcentres. After approx 3hrs we returned to the hotel again, got changed and went out to dinner to the Hardwick Arms in Sedgefield, a deal we had got a voucher for and proved to be a little gem for themeals. The next morning after another hearty breakfast we packed our belongings and left. In all it was a very pleasant weekend in a nice location and a nice hotel. The Hotel is in the height of thewedding season and there were 3 weddings while we were staying, 2 on the Saturday and 1 on the Sunday with lots of guests, some of which were a bit rowdy on the Saturday evening but nothing thatbothered us to much. Excellent hotel stay in the Best Western Derwent Manor. The room had excellent views over the hills (even better when they're covered in snow!); the room itself was surprisingly large for a 3* hotel See More  Read more information - the bed was comfy, good sized and well equipped bathroom, also included tea making facilities. My only criticism would be the television - it could do with updating/not being on the floor! We haddinner in the hotel's bar. Both meals were homemade and tasted delicious, well worth the £22 for two specials! And the staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was equally delicious - cerealsand pastries for those like me who don't want the full cooked breakfast (which was available on request). We made good use of the spa; nice little pool and Jacuzzi, very relaxing with the viewssurrounding it, and a sauna available for use too. There was also a gym but i'm afraid I was too busy chilling out for that! Again the staff were really helpful in the spa, even offered towels if they wereneeded.
