York is the UK destination of choice for those looking to enjoy good food and wine, according to a poll.
TripAdvisor's Travellers Choice Food and Wine awards, which were decided by tourists, found York to be the fifth most popular European destination.
It was beaten to the top spot by Florence, with Paris, Rome and Sorrento making up the rest of the top four spots.
However, those booking York hotels will be able to experience the best cuisine on these shores, with its nearest UK challenger Edinburgh coming ninth.
Other destinations appearing in the top ten were Siena, Bologna, San Sebastian and Barcelona, highlighting Italy and Spain's reputation for fine wine and good food.
Gillian Cruddas, chief executive of Visit York, said: "We are delighted by this news. York really is a foodie haven with so many quality local producers, award winning restaurants and speciality markets."
She added that the city has just enjoyed its most successful festival of food and drink ever, with everything from "Yorkshire reared venison with chocolate sauce to mouth watering Wensleydale cheeses" appearing on the menu.
Among the eateries in York, TripAdvisor recommended checking out the city's traditional tea rooms and gastropubs.
