York described as 'most Christmassy city in Britain'
Date Posted: 17/10/11
The city of York could well be the best place to visit for Christmas breaks, according to tourism chiefs.
It is set to host a number of events throughout the festive period, including a new fair which will run in Parliament Street between Saturday December 3rd and Sunday December 18th.
The York Press reported that a Made in Yorkshire Christmas Market will take place in Sampson's Square at the end of November, while a full switch-on of York's lights will take place on Thursday November 17th.
Gillian Cruddas, chief executive of Visit York, said: "We are confident in staking our claim to be the most Christmassy city in the UK and that no other city in the entire country offers such a variety of things to see and do."
She added that "nowhere in Britain can beat York for throwing itself into the Christmas spirit".
Recently, TripAdvisor announced that York was the UK's best food and wine destination, beating London to the top spot.
