Wicked Now 14th Longest Running Musical

Wicked, the musical based on the lives of the witches from the world of Oz, has become the 14th longest running musical in West End history, jumping up the rankings at the expense of Me and My Girl.

And with Wicked continuing its open-ended run in the capital, it could climb further up the list of long-running shows in London over the coming years. Jesus Christ Superstar, which closed with 3,357 performances, is currently in 13th position and with Wicked currently on 3,304 shows, it looks set to break yet more records very soon.

Recently, Wicked hit another milestone - welcoming its six millionth audience member - and with bookings showing no sign of slowing down, plenty more people are going to enjoy the exciting and fantastic production in the coming months.

The musical received another boost in July, when it was announced that Kerry Ellis would be returning to the role of Elphaba for 12 weeks from Monday August 4th. The actress played the witch in both the West End and on Broadway, although hasn’t stepped into the shoes of the Wicked Witch of the West since 2009.

If you want to capture a bit of the magic for yourself on a London theatre break, you can book tickets for Wicked through the Apollo Victoria Theatre or, better yet, as part of a package including a hotel, so that you can make a real weekend of it.

In case you’re not familiar with the story behind Wicked - it tells the tale of Elphaba and Glinda, two sorcery students who forge an unlikely friendship and go on to fulfil their destinies as the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good.

The show is fantastic, with a host of incredible numbers, including Defying Gravity, No One Mourns the Wicked and The Wizard and I - definitely one that you don’t want to miss.
