West Yorkshire Beer Wins Prestigious Award

West Yorkshire brewery Timothy Taylor has picked up one of the most prestigious awards in the world of beer, with its Boltmaker brew taking the title of best beer in the country at London’s Great British Beer Festival this year.

Peter Eells, head brewer at Timothy Taylor, told the BBC: “I’m speechless. We work very hard to produce great beers and we really believe this is the best beer we can brew - so to have it acknowledged in such an important competition is fantastic.”

Although the Great British Beer Festival has closed, there are other opportunities to sample Yorkshire’s finest brews for yourself and decide whether Boltmaker really does deserve the prize it’s been awarded.

Starting shortly before the York Food and Drink Festival in September this year, the York Beer and Cider Festival will be running for four days and Timothy Taylor is one of the many breweries sponsoring the event.

Between Wednesday September 17th and Sunday September 21st, you can head to the beer tent to try all manner of tipples, with more than 400 varieties of beer and over 100 ciders and perries on offer.

Many Yorkshire breweries are supporting the festival, including Roosters Brewing Company, Rudgate Brewery, Great Heck Brewing Company, Brass Castle Brewery, Bad Seed Brewery and Ilkley Brewery, among many others.

All of the ales will be on offer in a huge beer tent at York Knavesmire, so if you want to sample some of Yorkshire’s finest tipples, this is the place to come to.

On Friday September 19th, the York Food and Drink Festival will kick off, giving you yet more opportunities to tempt your taste buds. St Sampson’s Square in York will host a daily specialist food market where you can pick up delicious morsels and if you haven’t tired of trying the local brews, you can also follow the festival’s Ale Trail.

Among the other events taking part throughout the ten-day extravaganza are cookery workshops, tasting sessions and special meals at many of York’s top restaurants.
