Watch the Chinese Dragon Boat Festival in Manchester
Date Posted: 10/04/14
Taking place on June 1st, the Chinese Dragon Boat Festival 2014 will be floating through Dock 9 at Salford Quays in Greater Manchester.
Becoming one of the most popular cultural festivals in North West England, the event hosts races between elaborately decorated dragon boats, as well as other cultural activities related to Chinese tradition.
Highlights during this special day include the well-known lion dance, the Chinese version of Kung Fu, as well as a selection of food including dumplings and sticky rice.
This is a free event organised by the XinHua Chinese Association (XCA) who aim to make it a great day of entertainment and education for families and friends.
The event encourages team-building for those that take part in the dragon boat races. Each boat holds ten paddlers, a drummer to build up the excitement, and a boat instructor. Every dragon boat team races three times and if their time is good enough they will compete in the final round.
Enjoy this traditional Chinese-inspired event and check out other sites in the region while staying at a Manchester hotel.
