Visit the Jorvik Viking Festival on a trip to York
Date Posted: 04/02/14
York’s famous Jorvik Centre will once again be holding its annual Jorvik Viking Festival from February 15th - 23rd.
The tradition of the Jorvik Viking Festival began over 1,000 years ago when York was under Viking rule. During this time the city held a great celebration called ‘Jolablot’. The festivities were always held in February in order to welcome the coming of spring and the end of winter.
Today, this Norse tradition has been revived and is now recognised as the largest Viking Festival in the Europe, which attracts over 40,000 visitors to the city each year.
Highlights of the festival include family-friendly events, lectures, guided walks and battle re-enactments.
Why not make a family weekend of it and spend some time looking around the historic city of York too? There are plenty of great York hotels to choose from.
