Visit the Isle of Anglesey and Dorset for the best beaches in the UK
Date Posted: 08/05/12
Short breaks to the seaside should be on the cards for Brits this summer as the UK has a record number of beaches that exhibit first-rate water quality, according to the latest Good Beach Guide.
Some 516 of the UK's 754 beaches have been rated "excellent" by the guide, which is developed by the Marine Conservation Society. This is 55 additional seaside locations than the 2011 survey.
All but one of the 26 beaches on the Isle of Anglesey received the top rating while 35 of Dorset's 40 also got the nod, meaning that these two counties have the highest concentration of good, safe beaches.
If you are heading to the island in north Wales this summer then be sure to make a beeline for the recently refurbished pier on the beach in Beaumaris.
It was first opened in 1846 but has undergone work to improve its structural integrity and accessibility for tourists over the last year.
Visitors to Dorset should head to beautiful beaches such as Hive, Seatown and Church Ope Cove.
