Visit Edinburgh in 2015
Date Posted: 21/01/15
Long referred to as a cultured city throughout the world, Edinburgh boasts countless festivals and events designed to entertain people of all ages and backgrounds. No matter what your tastes are, the capital of Scotland has plenty of reasons throughout the year to visit. If you're looking for an excuse to visit Edinburgh this year, then your mission is at an end.
Book your stay to coincide with any of these celebrations and you're in for a treat.
Edinburgh International Science Festival
This celebration of all things science and worldly features hands-on experiments, fascinating talks and many more family-friendly events and activities. A vibrant event that commemorates every scientific discovery imaginable, people from all walks of life and of all ages are guaranteed to have a fantastic time here, as the festival gradually encourages them to question everything around them. This year, the Edinburgh International Science Festival will take place from April 4th until the 19th, meaning two full weeks of extraordinary discoveries await all those who come along.
Those with children will undoubtedly want to time their visit to Edinburgh so that they can attend the Imaginate Festival in May. Like the world famous Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Imaginate sees thousands of performers get together on the arts scene, with plays and acts taking place on the streets and in the city's many arts venues. Unlike the Fringe, however, these particular performances are aimed exclusively at children, with a programme designed to thrill both the young and the young-at-heart. Imaginate takes place this year on the week beginning May 11th.
Edinburgh International Film Festival
Renowned throughout the universe of film, the Edinburgh International Film Festival has a habit of attracting huge names to its numerous screenings. Venture out into the city's charismatic streets during June and you never know who you'll come across. Glitzy premieres and cutting-edge independent films aplenty, the Film Festival brings a touch of Hollywood glamour to Edinburgh. This year, the event will run from June 17th until the 28th.
The Edinburgh Fringe Festival
The most famous event in Edinburgh's calendar is the Fringe Festival, and international celebration of comedy, theatre and the arts in general that completely takes over the city and brings a carnival atmosphere to the streets. Wandering around, you'll be able to identify famous comics - both those with shows on the Fringe and those who are coming to support their friends and co-stars. Eddie Izzard, Sandi Toksvig, Russell Howard and Michael Mcintyre are repeat offenders at this extravaganza, so be sure you don't miss out.
Nowhere in the world throws a New Year bash quite like Edinburgh, and though the city has just celebrated this renowned holiday, it's worth getting prepared for next year's incarnation if you want to guarantee a part of the proceedings. Not only does the city enjoy a splendid fireworks display but there's also a concert that always has some worthwhile names performing.
