Members of parliament have got behind calls for horse racing star Tony McCoy to be named as Sports Personality of the Year.
RacingPost.com reported that the joint chairmen of the All Party Group on Racing & Bloodstock posted a motion yesterday supporting the champion jump jockey.
This was later backed by a number of MPs, including Ronnie Campbell, Guy Opperman and Gavin Williamson.
The 2010 Grand National Winner is even odds on favourite with some bookmakers to win the award, which will be presented at the end of a magical night at the LG Arena.
It will take place on Sunday December 19th, with around 12,000 people looking to book Birmingham hotels and see some of their sporting heroes.
According to William Hill, other candidates for the prize include European Ryder Cup stars Lee Westwood and Graeme McDowell, along with athlete Jessica Ennis and diver Tom Daley.
Boxer David Haye is another name thrown into the ring, while cricketer Graeme Swann might appeal to some.
