Tim Minchin's Matilda set for West End run
Date Posted: 01/04/11
The Royal Shakespeare Company's (RSC) musical version of Matilda is heading from Stratford-upon-Avon to London's West End in the autumn.
Composer Tim Minchin and the RSC have confirmed that those on London theatre breaks will be able to enjoy an "open ended run" of their adaptation of Roald Dahl's classic later in the year.
Dahl's story tells the tale of an astonishingly bright young girl called Matilda, who discovers she has magical powers and uses them against her bullying headteacher and ignorant parents.
Tickets are set to go on sale May, at which point the exact dates for performances and casting will be announced.
Plans are clearly in the early stages, as even the theatre Matilda will be staged at has not been announced.
However, tickets are likely to sell quickly when more details are confirmed as performances in Stratford proved to be a huge success.
The show was also awarded the Best Musical gong at the Critic's Circle Theatre Awards earlier in the year, an accolade which was picked up the previous year by Spring Awakening.
