Silverstone unveils new pits and paddock ahead of British Grand Prix
Date Posted: 17/05/11
Silverstone, the home of the British Grand Prix, has officially opened its new pit and paddock complex.
Costing £27 million, race fans will be able to see the upgraded facilities when booking short breaks for the circuit's flagship event on Sunday July 10th.
The move came after the British Racing Drivers' Club, which owns the track, managed to secure a 17-year deal to stage the race.
Nigel Mansell, Formula One champion in 1992, told the BBC that the Silverstone circuit was now the "best in the world".
"This year's grand prix and all the major international events will take place using the new facility. Silverstone has got a right to a permanent place on the calendar and so we hope this is a long-term thing that will make the circuit smart," former Williams driver Damon Hill told BBC Radio 4's Today Programme.
Next up on the Formula One calendar is the Spanish Grand Prix this weekend, followed by trips to Monaco, Canada, the European leg at Valencia and then Silverstone.
