Scottish sporting events will put the country "on the world map"

A host of sporting events taking place in Scotland over the coming years will provide an opportunity for it to be showcased "on the world map", according to an expert.
David Allen, head of Scotland at People 1st, said that those booking short breaks to see competitions like the Commonwealth Games, the Ryder Cup, Scottish Homecoming and the Olympics next year will act as a "catalyst" for the region.
He stated that this is an excellent opportunity for businesses to look at the service that they are offering and ensure it is up to scratch.
"Scotland's going to be very much on the world map in a few years time and we want to make sure that the welcome, the visitor experience, that people have when coming to Scotland is absolutely first-class and matches the offering in terms of locations and historic things people can go see," Mr Allen added.
Despite the London 2012 Olympics mainly taking part in the English capital, Glasgow's Hampden Park will host eight football matches for both the women and men's competition.
