Ronan Keating makes West End debut in Once

Former Boyzone singer Ronan Keating has made his West End debut as the male lead in the award-winning musical Once, in which two unnamed leads find love on the streets of Dublin.
The show, which is based on the 2007 Oscar-winning film of the same name, is playing at the Phoenix Theatre on Charing Cross Road, and has won the hearts and minds of thousands of people over the course of its 18-month run.
According to a statement, the popstar is reportedly "truly bowled over" to have the opportunity to perform as the lead in the show, claiming it to be a "modern day masterpiece".
"When I was asked about playing the lead male I was completely overwhelmed," he said. "I knew it would be perfect - this was my home town, my people, and the place where I begin my own music career."
Keating took over the role at the end of last week (November 17th) following a performance with the rest of the cast on BBC's Children in Need, in which he sang the Academy award-winning song Falling Slowly.
Press of Keating's performance has so far been favourable, but the star's first week in the role has not been exactly smooth, as he has had to request the first row of the seating in the Phoenix Theatre be moved back.
The popstar has concerns that fans from his Boyband years will attempt to mob him during the show, which first opened in 2013 on the West End following a critically acclaimed Broadway run.
Fans anxious to see Keating perform in the role only have until March next year to do so, as the musical is set to close on the 21st of the month, when it will have run for two years.
The story features music and lyrics are by Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova, both of whom starred as the leads in the film and won an Oscar for best original song.
