The Pitmen Painters to get West End bow later this year
Date Posted: 28/06/11
The Pitmen Painters is being brought to the West End later this year, having enjoyed successful runs in Newcastle and at the National Theatre.
It will open in front of those booking London theatre breaks at the Duchess from Wednesday October 5th following a UK tour which also includes shows at the Richmond theatre between Monday July 11th and Friday July 16th.
The production is based on a true story and tells the tale of a group of artistic miners from Ashington, who hire a professor to give them lessons in appreciating forms of culture.
However, they soon turn their knowledge into practice and produce a number of highly sought after works of art while still carrying out their day jobs down the mine.
The play was written by Lee Hall, who is best known for his work on the screenplay of the film and stage versions of Billy Elliot.
While the cast has yet to be announced, Christopher Connel, Deka Walmsley and David Whitaker are all taking part in the current tour.
