The Nutcracker and Strictly Gershwin to return to London Coliseum
Date Posted: 12/08/11
The English National Ballet is bringing two shows back to the London Coliseum this Christmas.
A revival of Wayne Eagling's The Nutcracker and Strictly Gershwin can be seen by those booking theatre breaks during the festive period.
The Nutcracker, which has been performed at this time of year since 1950 by English National Ballet, will run between Thursday December 8th and Friday December 30th.
Eagling's version is the tenth to be staged by the company, with the artistic director providing his take on the story of the Plum Fairy and Clara.
Strictly Gershwin will then run at the same venue between Wednesday January 4th and Sunday January 15th.
Making its London Coliseum debut, it takes inspiration from George Gershwin's music and features nearly 70 scintillating dancers.
Designed by Frank Matcham, the Coliseum is the largest theatre in London and can hold 2,359 people.
During the past decade it has undergone renovations, finally incorporating an original staircase into the specifications.
