Motown the Musical for West End Transfer

Motown the Musical for West End Transfer

Motown the Musical has been making waves across the Atlantic on Broadway, and it seems that London audiences won't have to wait long to see what all the fuss is about as the production will be transferring to the West End next year.

The news was confirmed by producer Kevin McCollum, who said that the show would close in New York for an extended hiatus so that the London production can make use of the production assets.

Motown the Musical premiered in the US to rave reviews, with critics praising the performances of songs from the motown genre of music in particular. It was later nominated for four Tony Awards.

Audiences fell in love with the story, which is based on the life of successful producer Berry Gordy, the man who launched the careers of real-life superstars such as Diana Ross, Smokey Robinson, Marvin Gaye and the King of Pop Michael Jackson.

Featuring warm wit aplenty and much-loved numbers including 'I Hear a Symphony,' 'You're Nobody 'Til Somebody Loves You' and 'You're All I Need to Get By', the show will have West End theatre goers both laughing along with the plot and singing along to the music.

In fact, there are more than 60 songs throughout the show, meaning there is bound to be a number for everyone to enjoy.

Speculation is currently rife across London's theatreland as to which venue Motown will premiere in, with the smart bets on the Dominion Theatre, which is currently dark following the closure of We Will Rock You.

While there is currently no confirmation as to when the show will move to the West End, industry commentators have suggested we can expect to see Motown the Musical dancing into our hearts by summer or autumn 2015 at the latest.
