Matthew Kelly to star in Anton Chekhov's The Seagull
Date Posted: 18/09/12
Olivier Award-winning actor Matthew Kelly is to feature in a brand new adaptation of Anton Chekhov's The Seagull by Anya Reiss.
Fans of the play should book theatre breaks in London between Thursday, November 8th and Saturday, December 1st to see a performance at the Southwark Playhouse.
The Stars in their Eyes presenter will take the role of Dorn in the four-week run directed by Russell Bolam. Despite being best known for his talent show work, Kelly won an Olivier Award for his performance in Of Mice and Men in 2004.
Reiss' adaptation of the comic opus The Seagull promises to be "reignited for the 21st century". It tells the story of how an actress' success highlights the unfulfilled ambition of her friends and family.
The playwright's debut show Spur of the Moment was written when she was only 17 years old and opened at the Royal Court Theatre in 2010. She has since won awards from the Evening Standard and Critics' Circle Awards.
