Manchester to host Calamity Jane
Date Posted: 27/01/15

The current touring production of classic musical Calamity Jane is set to make a stop in Manchester's Palace Theatre this March, and theatrical fans will undoubtedly want to see it following excellent reviews from the nation's press.
Starring musical theatre veteran Jodie Prenger in the title role alongside soap opera star Tom Lister as Wild Bill Hickok, performances will run for a strictly limited period from March 24th until the 28th.
Prenger, who rose to prominence as part of the BBC reality TV show I'd Do Anything, has previously wowed audiences in Oliver!, Spamalot and One Man Two Guvnors. Lister, meanwhile, is best known for his portrayal of villain Carl King in the ITV soap opera Emmerdale, from 2004 until 2012.
Calamity Jane is a classic musical written by James O'Hanlon with music and lyrics by Sammy Fain and Paul Francis Webster. It is based on the film-musical released in 1953, which is in turn loosely based on the life of Wild West heroine Calamity Jane, and sees the efforts of the title character to bring a glamorous actress to the mining town of Deadwood.
With a double wedding, memorable characters and fantastic songs, the stage musical has been a hit with audiences since it first premiered in the 1960s.
Hit songs included in the production that the audience will want to sing along to include Everyone Complains About the Weather, It's Harry I'm Planning to Marry, Windy City and the famous eleven o'clock number Secret Love.
Those who don't manage to catch Calamity Jane during its short stint in Manchester should be reassured that the tour will continue to visit other venues in the UK until August, with high-profile stints in Liverpool, Dublin and Stoke-on-Trent among others.
