London beats Edinburgh to UK tourism top spot

London is the top place to visit in the UK, according to a survey of global travellers.
A study by TripAdvisor showed that those booking London hotels were impressed by what the capital has to offer.
Furthermore, it was rated the third best city to visit in Europe, with Paris and Rome claiming the top two spots, and eighth in the world, losing out to eventual winner Cape Town.
Emma Boyle, a spokeswoman for TripAdvisor, said: "London's performance is especially meaningful as so much time and effort has gone into preparing the city for the 2012 Olympics and hopefully it will sneak ahead of Paris and Rome before the Games start."
Other destinations to appear in the top twenty places to visit in the UK include Edinburgh, York, Liverpool, Glasgow, Brighton and Manchester.
Recently, VisitBritain said that the royal wedding would help to generate £50 million in tourism revenue, which could kick-start a decade long success story.
