Lenny Henry’s 'Fences' to Transfer to the West End
Date Posted: 19/03/13
A production of August Wilson's Pulitzer Prize-winning play 'Fences', starring Lenny Henry, will soon be playing to those on London theatre breaks after plans to transfer the show to the West End were revealed.
Currently running at the Theatre Royal Bath, the production will transfer to London's Duchess Theatre from June 19th following a UK tour.
The play will stay at the West End venue until September 14th, reports thestage.co.uk.
Written in 1983, 'Fences' is part of Wilson's epic ten-play cycle about the black experience in 20th-century America and centres on Troy Maxson, a former baseball star who later becomes a garbageman, and who is consumed by bitterness.
It made its Broadway premiere in 1987 and went on to win a Tony Award for Best Play and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama.
Henry, who plays Maxson, has previously starred in several theatre roles, including recent productions of Othello and The Comedy of Errors.
