Legally Blonde scoops four Whatsonstage Awards
Date Posted: 21/02/11
Legally Blonde was crowned the queen of theatre after picking up four prizes at the annual Whatsonstage Awards.
It scooped the Best New Musical prize, with star of the show Sheridan Smith winning the Best Actress in a Musical category.
Co-star Jill Halfpenny was given the Best Supporting Actress in a Musical, with director and choreographer Jerry Mitchell also being rewarded.
The awards are the only ones in the UK voted for entirely by the public and those who have been on theatre breaks.
Among the other winners were Wicked: The Musical and Andrew Lloyd Webber's Love Never Dies, with both productions picking up two awards each.
The Les Miserables 25th anniversary concert, which took place at London's O2 arena in October, won three prizes.
Terri Paddock, editorial director of the theatre website, said: "The Whatsonstage Awards is now one of the most important theatrical events in the West End - entirely led by the public with wholehearted support from artists."
