Join in the festival of San Joan in Barcelona
Date Posted: 13/05/14
The night of June 23rd is a special night in Catalunya and its main city Barcelona, holds a major celebration for San Joan, which is unlike anything you may have seen before.
Water, herbs and fire, are all related to the festival, and the supposedly reserved Catalans go all out with reference to the latter.
Firecrackers, fireworks and mysterious demons in hoods spraying sparks from their gothic instruments all form part of the event renowned for keeping you on your toes.
If you have a heart problem then is is not a good place to be. Nethertheless if you are prepared for the bangs and dodging firecrackers, then this is a festival not to be missed. Its spirited atmosphere goes well into the madrugada (early morning) and most spectacles happen around the beach and La Rambla area.
Book early to reserve your spot at a Barcelona hotel.
