The Importance of Being Earnest Opera to Tour
Date Posted: 16/09/13
An operatic version of one of the most famous plays to come out of the Victorian period, The Importance of Being Earnest, is set to tour several Irish venues later this year.
According to NI Opera, who are presenting the piece alongside Wide Open Opera, the piece will be presented at Derry-Londonderry's Millenium Forum on October 26th, before heading to Belfast's Grand Opera House for an October 30th performance.
Belfast hotels could provide audience members with a place to stay should they need one in the city.
Cork and Dublin are the two other locations where the recently created opera is due to be performed. The piece is the work of Gerald Barry, and of course takes its inspiration from the play penned by famed Irish scribe Oscar Wilde.
The performers taking to the stage for the tour include Hilary Summers, who will play Miss Prism, and Peter Tantsits, who is taking the role of John Worthing.
The original Wilde play has been hitting the stage since the tail end of the 19th century.
