Helen Mirren reprises role as The Queen
Date Posted: 24/09/12
Dame Helen Mirren is returning to her Oscar Award-winning character from The Queen when she plays Elizabeth II in a new production entitled The Audience.
Fans of Dame Helen should book theatre breaks in London between Friday, February 15th and Saturday, June 15th to catch the play at the Giegud Theatre.
The Audience tells the story of Elizabeth II's weekly meetings with a few of the 12 prime ministers who have held office during her reign, imagining some of the interesting and pivotal conversations they may have had.
It has been written by Peter Morgan, who has worked on Frost/Nixon, The Last King of Scotland and The Damned United, and directed by Stephen Daldry, the man behind the stage version of Billy Elliot.
Dame Helen won the Best Actress Academy Award in 2007 for her portrayal of Elizabeth II in The Queen, and she also received a nomination for the same award in 2010 for playing Tolstoy's wife in The Last Station.
