Hay Fever announces West End run

Noël Coward's Hay Fever will take a turn on the West End this spring, with none other than The Good Life star Felicity Kendal leading the cast.

The production impressed critics and audiences at the Theatre Royal Bath last summer where tickets were entirely sold out, with the producers then taking it on a tour of Australia that was also very well-received.

Kendal will return to front the West End incarnation, although further casting has not yet been announced. The limited run at the Duke of York Theatre in the heart of London's Theatreland will take place from April 29th until August 1st, and tickets are sure to be popular.

Coward's play is considered an absolute classic of the comedy genre that sees Judith - a former stage star - struggling to retain the spotlight in her own home, which she shares with novelist husband David and two grown children Sorel and Simon.

Chaos ensues, however, when every member of the family invites a guest to their rural retreat in Berkshire, with the visitors dragged kicking and screaming into the family drama resulting in misjudged meetings, secret seductions and scandalous revelations.

The critics have already lauded the production, with Australia's Adelaide Now proclaiming: "Felicity Kendal, all eyes and ego, is the Judith Bliss of your dreams … that wicked smile and that oh-so distinctive voice mean that she steals every moment from her first entrance.

"The audience … was treated to a display of impeccable timing and verbal and physical humour."

Hay Fever is certain to prove popular with London's theatre scene and its strictly limited run is likely to sell out very quickly. Those keen to see Ms Kendal in action should keep an eye on the headlines to see when tickets are released.
