'Great actor' Pete Postlethwaite 'loved theatre'
Date Posted: 04/01/11
Pete Postlethwaite, who died last weekend, has been described as a "great actor" who loved his time spent working on theatre productions.
A graduate of the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, Postlethwaite started his training in the city before performing in front of those booking Liverpool hotels at the Everyman Theatre.
He then moved on to the Royal Shakespeare Company in the 1980s, before starring in much-loved films The Usual Suspects and Brassed Off.
"Not only was he such a great actor ... he was also a fantastic human being. He was just wonderful. He loved theatre and loved theatre people and was a great friend and a great actor," said fellow Old Vic Theatre School graduate Stephanie Cole, speaking to the Bristol Evening Post.
Other stars of stage and screen have been quick to pay tribute to Postlethwaite, with former girlfriend Julie Walters stating that he was the "most exciting and exhilarating actor of his generation".
