Follow the Paddington Trail in London
Date Posted: 05/08/14
A new trail linking some of London’s top landmarks and cultural sights will open in October and it will be marked by a series of statues of Paddington Bear.
The loveable creation of author Michael Bond will be replicated 50 times, with these three foot six inch tall statues positioned all over the UK’s capital in some of the bear’s favourite spots. However, these sculptures won’t all look the same, as artists, designers and other creatives will be putting their own stamp on them.
Sadly, the Paddington Bear statues won’t be a permanent fixture, and will be auctioned for charity later in the year, in support of the NSPCC and its ChildLine service.
Managing director of Paddington and Company Karen Jenkel commented: “When my father Michael Bond first wrote about Paddington many years ago he could never have imagined that one day he would see life-sized versions of his creation all over London.
“It is a huge honour for a small bear and it will be very exciting to see how all the different artists choose to interpret him.”
The Paddington Trail has been set up to coincide with the release of the movie about the famous character, which is due to have its premiere on Friday November 28th.
A host of famous names are appearing in the film, including Julie Walters, Jim Broadbent, Peter Capaldi, Nicole Kidman, Hugh Bonneville and Sally Hawkins. Paddington himself will be voiced by Ben Whishaw, who recently graced the big screen as Q in Bond movie Skyfall.
Details of where the Paddington Trail will go have yet to be released, but one thing is certain - families on weekend breaks in London are bound to love seeking out the famous bear and seeing where he takes them.
It’s a fantastic way to go sightseeing in the capital with a difference and one that’s bound to engage children of all ages, not to mention be great fun for grown-ups too. Taking photos of each of the Paddington statues will be as much a part of a day out as seeing the sights themselves.
