Fiddle festival set to ignite Edinburgh

Edinburgh will soon be full of the sound of fiddle music as the city's annual Scots Fiddle Festival takes to the streets, with an exciting programme of performances that is sure to entertain both young and old.

The three-day event aims to give traditional fiddling a strong and vibrant future in Scotland by supporting players keen on taking the artform forwards, and by providing a platform for all ages to stand up and show off their talent.

Orkney Folk: The Fiddle Gathering kicks things off on Friday November 21st with a project that puts together an exquisite cast of legendary fiddle players to recreate the stylings to acclaimed musical director Douglas Montgomery, who will of course be in attendance.

The enjoyment doesn't stop there, with the Queen's Hall hosting an exciting concert from 7:30pm that gathers all the youngsters in Edinburgh with an interest in fiddle playing for a series of fantastic performances throughout the evening. Acclaimed bluegrass and jazz artist Casey Driessen will also perform.

Sunday's concert is likely to be equally as successful, with Ross Couper, Tom Oakes, Frankie Gavin and the Lomond Ceilidh Band among those in attendance for a fantastic fiddle-off.

While the evening events are certain to be thoroughly enjoyable, it's also worth checking out the recitals during the day, which are taking place at the Queen's Hall and the Summerhall Main Hall and should be booked in advance. The full list of critically acclaimed musicians is available on the website in the form of a timetable.

Other exciting events include an outdoor 'fiddle walk', an opportunity to see how you should maintain a fiddle and a variety of talks and discussions taking place on the Sunday entitled Talking Fiddles.
