Edinburgh gears up for Oktoberfest
Date Posted: 08/09/14
When one thinks of Oktoberfest, Edinburgh might not be the first destination that springs to mind. But if you can't get as far as Bavaria, the Scottish capital makes an excellent alternative for this fantastic beer-centric extravaganza.
Taking place at the Prince's Street Gardens in the very heart of the city amid the gorgeous greenery across two whole weeks and a packed programme of events, this is one celebration you'll want to remember, so don't drink too much!
Get into your lederhosen and prepare to hear some classic 'schlager' tunes as the organisers have ensured a list of activities that encompasses music, cuisine and beverages that are quintessentially German.
Local bands will pull out their best Kraftwerk impressions and you can rely on lederhosen-clad waitresses to be serving everything from sumptuous sausages to superb snitzel. And that is without mentioning the beer, which will be flowing very freely indeed.
In order to get that feel-good festival atmosphere across, organisers are erecting a giant tent in the middle of the Prince's Gardens, which will have room for up to 1,500 people. The entry fee will be £10 and people can enter with the afternoon group at midday or the evening session at 5pm. Packages that include food and beer vouchers are also available, starting from £34.
If you're interested in attending, Edinburgh Oktoberfest runs from October 1st until the 5th before reopening on the 8th until the 12th. Special family-friendly offers are available on Sundays, so be sure to bring everyone along.
Edinburgh is a diverse and exciting city with many historical sites and special events that are likely to thrill and delight visitors to this extraordinary place. Consider booking a hotel for a weekend away that will allow you to explore it all.
