Dublin Theatre Festival Kicks off This Month

There's plenty of excitement stirring around the Dublin Theatre Festival, which is set to take off with a rousing cheer on September 25th as the city welcomes in world-class theatre on an international scale.

Festival goers can look forward to a variety of exciting events that will see major plays such as A Girl is a Half-formed Thing, If These Spasms Could Speak and Réiltín to enjoy. With a variety of themes covered including physical disabilities, teen development and war injuries among others, this is certain to be a challenging and exciting time for theatre in Dublin.

The fun gets underway with a performance of William Shakespeare's classic play Hamlet, widely considered one of the Bard's strongest and most accessible tragedies. Performances take place from the 25th until the 27th.

Following on at the Olympia Theatre, the twin plays Brigit and Bailegangaire will run from October 1st until the 5th. Originally performed in 1985, these two productions are considered among the crowning achievements of Irish drama.

Among the other performances well watching out for, Ganesh Versus the Third Reich stands out as another highlight. Its poignant heart-warming tale of disarming vulnerability focuses on the god Ganesh who travels through Nazi Germany in an effort to reclaim the Swastika, an ancient Hindu symbol.

Those prolific theatre-goers looking for a few other worthwhile plays would be advised to check out Jack Charles V The Crown, Book Burning and After Sarah Miles if they're looking for recommendations.

If you're planning to attend the Dublin Theatre Festival, be advised that the events take place in numerous venues and it is wise to check online before you turn up. The extravaganza runs from September 25th until October 12th and a full programme can be downloaded via the website.
