Collaborators to move from Cottesloe to Olivier theatre for Travelex season
Date Posted: 24/11/11
Collaborators is moving to the larger Olivier theatre from the National's Cottesloe venue as it becomes part of Travelex's £12 season.
It will open at its new home in front of those booking London theatre breaks on Monday April 30th, with Alex Jennings and Simon Russell Beale reprising their roles as Joseph Stalin and Mikhail Bulgakov respectively.
The production, from John Hodge, is set in Moscow in 1938 and tells the story of playwright Bulgakov who has been commissioned to make a production for the Russian leader's 60th birthday.
When it opened at the Cottesloe earlier this month, Official London Theatre said that director Nicholas Hytner "embraces the aspects of vaudevillian comedy and nightmarish fantasy", while the performances of Beale and Jennings were "larger than life" at points.
Furthermore, the Independent's Claudia Pritchard said that Collaborators was a "high-voltage knockabout, daring in its comedy... exhilaratingly fast, original and hugely entertaining".
