Brits ‘Pack Culture’ into Weekend Breaks
Date Posted: 01/07/14
Brits like to hit the cultural sites hard on their city breaks in the UK and elsewhere in Europe according a new survey, which found that nearly half of those questioned (47 per cent) cram culture into a weekend away.
On average, those questioned felt that they fitted in around one-third (34 per cent) of their year’s cultural intake into a single short break.
Carol Bell, head of culture and major events at the NewcastleGateshead Initiative, which carried out the research, commented: “Whilst local audiences will always be core to the ongoing success of museums, galleries, festivals and events - cultural tourists are an audience of growing potential.”
The organisation also asked people what they thought made a city great - two-thirds claimed that wanting to return to it was a good sign, while 40 per cent stated that feeling like they could live there meant it had left a positive impression.
There are many brilliant cities for a cultural getaway in the UK, of which Newcastle is just one. London, of course, is a popular choice due to its plethora of museums, galleries and theatres, while the likes of Edinburgh has many fantastic historical attractions.
