Book of Mormon 'Bringing Theatre to a New Audience'
Date Posted: 11/03/13
New West End musical The Book of Mormon is helping to attract a new audience to the theatre, one of the show's stars has said.
Jared Gertner, who plays Elder Cunningham - one of the two Mormon missionaries at the centre of the musical's plot, told thestage.co.uk that large numbers of young people and first-timers are coming to see the show.
He puts this down to the following of the musical's writers - South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone.
"We have had 16-year-old boys come in with South Park t-shirts on, or husbands pulling their wives into the show," he said.
"Normally it's the opposite, with the husbands sat there checking their phone for some game or something."
The Book of Mormon has also enjoyed rave reviews since opening in the West End earlier this month, making it a must-see for many of those on theatre breaks in the capital.
Tickets are on sale now and available through the box office, priced from £39.50.
