Ashes collapse as Peter Siddle rocks England
Date Posted: 25/11/10
The Ashes got underway last night, and Australia have had the best of the first day's play thanks to a hat-trick from Peter Siddle.
After electing to bat first, England skipper Andrew Strauss fell to the third ball of the innings, before Alastair Cook and Jonathan Trott stabilised things.
Kevin Pietersen made 43 before Siddle ripped through England's middle order, taking the wickets of Cook, Matt Prior and Stuart Broad in consecutive deliveries.
Resistance from the in-form Ian Bell, who made 76, ensured that England made a respectable 260, however, with Australia closing on 25 for no loss, they will feel that they are in the driver's seat to take hold of the first Test.
Cricket fans gripped by Ashes fever can now book their tickets for England matches next season, with Yorkshire County Cricket Club encouraging people to book Leeds hotels and watch the 2nd NatWest one-day international against Sri Lanka on Friday July 1st.
